Acoustic Surf Music

Acoustic Surf Music is a website dedicated to Ventura County California's local flavor and sound. More than a sound it is a culture-  a style - of the infamous dog's life in Southern California. Acoustic Surf Music is the grassroots solo act of Bobby Campbell - lead singer, guitarist and song writer - and his percussionist side-kick, Linus.  Bobby Campbell has been showcasing his solo talent in some of So Cal's most famous venues for over ten years.

In order to help Linus cope with a tumulutous divorce in 2005, Bobby bought his childhood friend a pair of Djembe drums. Linus immediately began pounding away his soul's resentments and sorrow on animal skin, as "the good thing 'bout music is that when it hits you feel no pain".  A latent talent within Linus was born and strengthened the acoustic element to Bobby's act.  The two have been an inseparable music duo ever since.  

Both Bobby and Sean live on Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard, CA.  Silver Strand Beach, aka "The Strand", is a relatively unknown mile-long strip of sand home to one of So Cal's best surf breaks.  The area attracts an eclectic mix of surfers, sailors, families and military as it a beautiful community nestled just outside of Port Hueneme. 

It is there Linus and Bobby have also gathered a group of talented surfers/musicians to form Emilbus, a Sublime Tribute Band. Sublime is as vital to Southern California's finest as is sunshine. Embilus, or Sublime backwards, has taken Ventura County and Santa Barbara by storm.  Emilbus' members consist of Darren "Zorba" Cruz (lead electric guitar), Alex Iker (Drums), Billy Davis, Gabe Hernandez (bass) and Dave Hayz.  Of course vocals and acoustic guitar is provided by Bobby and Linus adds his flavor with the Djembes. Their main stomping ground is The Beachcomber, a local bar in Silver Strand.  Guaranteed you can a catch Bobby and Linus or Emilbus gig there at least twice a month.

This website is dedicated these artists, who continue to support and embrace the spirit of So Cal.  It is an ode to care-free individuals who carry on great legacies such as Bob Marley and Sublime.  It is an appreciation of timeless genre of music that liberates our souls by reminding us of the gentleness within human nature.  It liberates us from judgement and pretense, and unites us- allowing us feel more alive in the now.
